The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has called on stakeholders in the aluminium roofing sheet sector to adhere strictly to standard quality parameters during production.

The Director-General of SON, Mallam Farouk Salim, made the call in Owerri during a sensitisation programme, organised for stakeholders in the sector.

The programme was entitled, “Effective implementation of Aluminium Roofing Sheet Cladding.”

Salim, represented by the Director, South-East Operations of SON, Mr Fred Akingbesote, urged the stakeholders to comply with the revised Standards NIS 487 and 488 for aluminium products.

“Compliance to the requirements of this standard is what we call certification.
“The objective is to encourage excellent quality products and healthy competition among stakeholders,” Salim said.

He also advised them to show leadership commitment, analyse factory and market samples, create consumer awareness and engage in regular trainings and voluntary competition to ensure quality.

“We expect a good operating environment that will engender best practices.
“It will be a morale booster for people working for you.

“Report adulterated products to SON.

“Do not buy any market product without MANCAP logo.

“It does not matter where it comes from. It is a sign that the product has not been certified,” Salim said.

According to him, we are not just interested in selling and implementing the standard, but also want to see you expand your businesses.

The SON boss further called on them to form an association to make it easier for SON to reach out to them with information.

Earlier, the state Coordinator of SON, Mrs Comfort Echebiri, urged all hands to be on deck to ensure standard in the aluminium sector.

“After this sensitisation, we will commence enforcement to ensure implementation of the expected standards,” Echebiri said.

One of the participants and Chairman, Vinal Alumininium & Vinal Groups Ltd., Mr Vincent Izuagba, commended SON for the sensitisation.

Izuagba said that the sensitisation would help to improve the quality of their products.

He further said that plans were underway to establish an association for aluminum stakeholders in the state.
