The State Project Coordinator, Mr Ibrahim Garba, made this known during a presentation before the Steering Committee of the project, chaired by the Kano State Deputy Governor, Dr. Nasiru Gawuna, on Wednesday.

Garba said that the expenditure budget was for several projects including Dansoshiya Grazing Reserve development, expansion of Watari irrigation scheme by 1,000 hectares and upgrading of 20 slaughter houses.

Others are establishment of a commercial large scale fodder production, second batch of livestock fattening and reproduction schemes, implementation of straw utilisation and empowerment for youths and the construction of grains storage facilities.

The coordinator said that the amount was also earmarked for the Dawanau Market Infrastructure development, construction of 70km feeder roads, Stock routes development, and Crops Value Chain intervention (Cereals) by Sasakawa Africa Association.

Also to be undertaken by KNARDA is Crops Value Chain Intervention (Legumes) as well as project coordination and management activities, he added.

Mr Garba, however, rued the non-payment of counterpart funding by government, encroachment of Dansohiya Grazing Reserve and obstruction to development sites as some of the challenges to the smooth execution of the projects.

In his response, the State Deputy Governor, Dr. Yusuf Gawuna commended the KSADP’s implementation strategy.

He noted that the Project Management Unit had maintained a stable and strict budget implementation in the past year, and expressed optimism that the trend would be sustained.
