The Acting Chairman PCAC, Barr. Balarabe Mahmoud, made the disclosure while briefing newsmen in Kano on Wednesday.

“For the past one week we have been receiving complaints from members of the public concerning the issue of naira redisgn and fuel scarcity in the state.

“Upon receiving the information on Feb.13 and Feb.15, we mobilized our operatives and visited some filling stations, banks and super markets.

“We found out that some filling stations were selling fuel above government approved price while some adjust their litre to extort customers, by selling the product at high price and some are still rejecting the old naira note despite the supreme court order.

Mahmoud explained that they discovered some filling stations conniving with POS operators to extort customers.

“Each filling stations must have POS for its customers, but unfortunately, they bring someone with POS who will be charging customers for using POS in filling station premises this is extortion.

“Any filling station caught using POS to charge extra money will be arrested and prosecuted”

Meanwhile, Mahmoud said that during the operation one POS operator was also arrested.

“Today we visited six banks in the state to check if they still have new naira notes and are not giving it to their customers.

“We checked the banks strong room but they were no cash from the CBN. We also discovered that the banks don’t collect old naira notes from members of the public.

“We visited some super markets to see if they are refusing old naira notes. We are satisfied that they are still collecting old naira notes.

“We are in a very difficult period now of the cashless policy nobody should take the advantage to create more hardship to the public.”

Mahmoud called on POS operators not to extort money from members of the public, adding that over charging is not allowed.

He also called petroleum marketers and private depot owners to abide by the agreement reached during the stakeholders meeting on how to sell a litre of fuel.
