WAICA prepares to shore-up skills of West African Insurers

The West African Insurance Association (WAICA) on Tuesday said it was prepared to shore-up the skills of underwriters in the West African sub-region to enable them compete with their counterparts, globally.

Mrs Bola Odukale, Deputy Chairman, Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA)/Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee 2023 WAICA Education Conference, said this in a statement made available to newsmen in Lagos.

Odukale said the African insurance industry as a critical player in the economy should be able to compete globally. Hence, rating agencies must help to access the strength and global competitiveness of the insurance companies.

“If we are promoting the concept of a global village, the insurance industry in the West African sub- region needs to be seen as front runners in promoting global competitiveness.” she added.

According to her, the association, in line with the mandate, would hold the 2023 WAICA Educational Conference with the theme: “Repositioning the Insurance Industry in West Africa for Global Competitiveness between May 7 to May 9 at Eko Hotel in Lagos.

Odukale said A.M Best, a globally acclaimed, rating agency and other international scholars of repute would present papers at the conference, while the association would mark its 50th anniversary.
