Senate unveils 19 more ministerial nominees

Abuja, Aug. 3, 2023: The Senate, on Wednesday, received the second list of 19 ministerial nominees submitted by President, Bola Tinubu.

The Chief of Staff and the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila presented the new batch of ministerial nominees at plenary.

The Rules of the chamber were suspended at 3:15 pm to allow for the Chief of Staff to enter the hallowed Upper Chamber.

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio had earlier received the letter but the list was read after the screening of the five leftover ministerial nominees from the first batch of 28 nominees.

The letter reads: “In compliance to the provisions of Section 147 (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended and further to my earlier correspondence of July 27.

“I’m pleased to forward to you the under-listed nominees for confirmation by the Senate.

“Ahmed Kwazo, Bosun Tijani, Tunji Alausa, Tunji Alausa, Dr Yusuf Sununu, Adegboyega Oyetola, Atiku Bagudu, Bello Matawalle, Ibrahim Gaidam, Simon Lalong, Lola John, Shuaibu Audu, Sen. Sabi Abdullahi, Tahir Mamman.”

Others are Sen. Alkali Saeed, Sen. Sen Heineken Lokpobiri, Uba Ahmadu, Zephaniah Jisalo.

“Whilst I hope that the above mentioned nominees will receive the expeditious consideration and confirmation of the Senate, please accept Distinguished Senate President and Distinguished Senators the assurances of my highest regards.”

In his remarks, Akpabio said “In view of the nominees we have just received we will give them time for them tomorrow for them to go through their code of conduct and other papers before appearing before us.”

Meanwhile the Senate has adjourned till Friday to begin screening of the second batch of ministerial nominees.
