Court visits Patience Jonathan’s money palaver

Patience Jonathan

Ahead of 2027 Nigeria’s presidential election, The Democratic Front (TDF) has welcomed ex-First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan’s endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s candidature and described it as inspiring.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Mallam Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Chief Adedayo, the group described the endorsement as an unexpected but profound appreciation of the President’s overall leadership qualities by the former first family.

It said: “We note that Dame Jonathan’s endorsement is coming at a time when a section of the opposition in Nigeria was making surreptitious moves to call on her husband, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, to contest the 2027 presidential election against President Bola Tinubu.

“We are more thrilled by the fact that the former First Lady not only rejected the mischievous move but also pledged the unconditional support and preparedness of the former President’s family to go all out in campaigning for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

“It is strongly in our view, therefore, that this unique display of iconic solidarity and patriotism by the former First Lady should serve as an inspiration for the President to continue the drive towards national economic prosperity through his Renewed Hope agenda.

“Furthermore, the declaration of a pro-Tinubu stand by the former First Lady has nipped unnecessary sycophancy by greedy political jobbers in the bud. In other words, she has saved the nation from potentially distracting and destructive politics by selfish and power-hungry politicians.

“We are indeed happy that her expression of support for President Tinubu has extinguished the plot to drag former President Jonathan into an unnecessary race in 2027.

“The proponents of the mischievous campaign for Jonathan in 2027 should be advised to disembark from their egocentric voyage and embrace the current reality of political realignment that is engulfing the nation, triggered by the growing approval rating of President Tinubu’s pro-business approach to governance.

“This phenomenal support is evidently reflected in the gale of defection of notable politicians from the opposition to the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a show of solidarity with the President.”

It added that the action of former First Lady Dame Jonathan is indicative of her love for the unity and stability of Nigeria, for which we salute her.
