NDIC urges ICAN to integrate Deposit Insurance courses in programme

NDIC gives hope to customers of Fortis Bank

Abuja, Oct. 13, 2023: The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has called on the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to incorporate courses on Deposit Insurance System (DIS) in its educational programme.

A statement by Mr Bashir Nuhu, Director, Communication and Public Affairs Department of NDIC, said this in Abuja on Thursday.
Nuhu said the Managing Director of the corporation, Mr Bello Hassan, made the call when the Governing Council of ICAN led by its President, Mr Innocent Okwosa, visited him.

Hassan said including DIS courses into ICAN’s training programmes would enhance the understanding, not only within the banking sector but also among professional accountants.

He described the move as critical toward bridging the knowledge gap on the mandate and achievements of DIS, its critical role in protecting depositors and contributions to financial system stability.

Hassan said the move would also address misconceptions of the benefits and limitations of the DIS.

The managing director said that collaborating with ICAN and other stakeholders had become imperative to strengthen the effectiveness of the corporation to implement its mandate.

He assured the institute of the corporation’s support and partnership to further the practice of accounting in the country.

Earlier, Okwosa commended Hassan for his exemplary leadership and professionalism in the Corporation’s operations.
