Abuja, Nov. 17, 2023: The German Ambassador to Nigeria Mrs Annett Günther, said on Thursday that Nigeria and Germany are the two biggest economies and most populous countries in their respective continents.
The Ambassador said this at her country’s National Day called the Day of German Unity, which is also the 33rd celebration since its reunification in 1990.
The day is always celebrated on Oct. 3rd but this year it was shifted to Nov,16 for special reasons.
Günther said that Nigeria was Germany’s strongest partners, both countries’ bilateral relations dates back to 60 years ago and has grown ever since.
She added that the visit of the German Chancellor Olaf Sholz was a clear indication of their desire to lift both countries partnership to the next level in the face of manifold global challenges.
According to her that, both countries are the two biggest economies and most populous countries on their respective continents and we want to join forces and come closer together and adjust these partnership to new opportunities .
“Nigeria is a strong partner in preserving the international order, based on international law and the United Nation Charter, and a strategic partner for Germany in Africa.
“We are glad to see that Nigeria, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, is playing a leading role within ECOWAS.
“We agree again, without peace and stability there is no prosperity not in the region or anywhere. Germany will therefore continue its strong cooperation with Nigeria.
“Currently, worth 860 million Euros. we will continue our engagement in the police reform and to deepen cooperation in the security sector.
“We also endeavour to strengthen our economic and trade relation further, and work on climate issues, energy transition, renewable and future sources of energy such as hydrogen,” she said.
she added that as part of the Strong Team Europe in Nigeria, German’s cooperation goes beyond the above and they would continue to lend their support and amplify its effects.
Also through the tremendous engagement of the European Family in Nigeria.
