Uyo, Jan. 25, 2024: Mr Ma’amun Da’u Aliyu, the Managing Director (MD), Hadejia-Jama’are Basin Development Authority (HJRBDA), has restated the authority’s commitment to boost agriculture for improved food production.
Da’u Aliyu made this known on Thursday, at the opening of a three-day retreat for members of staff of the authority in Uyo.
He said that the authority was giving high priority to irrigated agriculture, employment generation and water supply.
According to him, in spite of the inherent challenges, HJRBDA had recorded significant achievements in delivering on its mandate.
He listed some of the achievements to include; establishment of tissue culture laboratory, engineering design office and a spring water plant known as Challawa.
Da’u Aliyu also said that the authority had also established seed multiplication and processing centres to boost farming and food production.
He said the efforts being made by the authority were in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Bola Tinubu-led government.
“’The future looks very bright for us and the people we serve, this is because priority attention is being given to both rain-fed and irrigated agriculture,” he said.
He expressed the determination of HJRBDA to surmount the many challenges confronting the agency, to ensure efficient service delivery.
“This will help us to rebuild and regain confidence in both the government and the communities we are serving,” Da’u Aliyu said.
