‎
‎The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) has commended the recent disbursement of N4.7 billion to trainees and accredited skills acquisition centres under the TVET skills development programme.
‎
‎In a statement signed by its chairman, Chukwudi Enekwechi, and Secretary Segun Ogedengbe, the group described the move as a sure way of making technical education more appealing.
‎
‎”It is noted that the federal government, under the auspices of the Federal Ministry of Education, TVET skills development programmes, has disbursed the first tranche of N4.7 billion to the trainees of the TVET programme and the accredited skills training centres.
‎
‎”Furthermore, the federal government has in the programme roll out started accelerating youth-focused skills training as a way of reducing unemployment and strengthening the country’s workforce.
‎
‎”We consider the rollout of the programmes as capable of serving both educational and social intervention objectives. It also shows the federal government is determined to change the narrative of education in the country from literature-based to practical vocational skills.
‎
‎”From the available records 42,000 fully registered students /trainees and 600 independent training centres have received their upkeep and skills training payments. Under this arrangement, each student receives a monthly stipend of N22,500 while the skills centres have been paid for the skill training they provide, thereby ensuring quality and continuity.”
‎
‎It also commends the President Bola Tinubu administration for investing in young Nigerians through practical job-creating skills
‎
