Abuja, December 19, 2021 (NIGERIA) Bandits have killed more than 29 persons, injured many others and destroyed property in parts of North West Kaduna state of Nigeria.

While 20 people were killed in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Saturday, nine others were killed in separate attacks in Chikun, Zaria, and Zangon Kataf Local Government Areas.

The state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan, confirmed the attacks on Sunday in Kaduna and stated that the military and police reported the casualties in the attacks.

He said: “Bandits attacked Kauran Fawa, Marke and Riheya villages in Idasu, Giwa Local Government Area, leaving more than 20 residents dead as of the time of this update.

“Houses, trucks, and cars were also burnt, along with agricultural produce on various farms,’’ he added.

Aruwan also said that the military and police authorities have reported that nine people have been killed on Friday in various attacks occurring in Chikun, Zangon Kataf, Igabi and Zaria local government areas.

According to him, three people were killed when bandits barricaded the Buruku-Udawa section of the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road in Chikun LGA.

He also disclosed that in the Yola-Kadi general area also of Chikun LGA, bandits killed one Danjuma Maiungwa and left another resident injured.

Furthermore, bandits killed two people in Sako village, Zangon Kataf LGA.

Also in Zangon Kataf LGA, two corpses were discovered by a patrol team in the Kurfi-Magamiya general area

“In Zaria LGA, one person  was shot to death by bandits in Saye village, “he said.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna reported that he received the reports with sadness and had sent condolences to the families of the victims.

Kaduna state had in decades been enmeshed in violent tribal and religious with a spike in last two years in which more than 5,400 people have been killed in attacks and counter attack.

The incursion of bandits in the state has compounded the security situation with the hoodlums holding people, including children to ransom, especially kidnapping for ransom.

As a welfare package to boost the morale of the police and spur them to do more in the fight against criminals, President Muhammadu Buharih as approved a new salary structure for officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

The president increased the salaries by 20 percent across the board.

The Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, had announced the increase also in allowances.

He said: “I am particularly very happy today to inform Nigerians that the Federal Executive Council has approved the review and upgrading of the take home pay of police personnel in this country.’’
