The Director-General, SON, Malam Farouk Salim, gave the advice at a week-long orientation exercise for its staff on Tuesday in Lagos.

Salim, describing the SON as an crucial agency of the Federal Government, maintained that employees must align themselves with the vision and mission of organisation.

He stressed that its employees must as standards ambassadors be proactive and bold to investigate any project in the bid to enforce standards across the country.

“This training is very important for both old and new employees because we want to ensure that you start on the right footing.

“Many industries that are supposed to give job opportunities to thousands of unemployed youths are folding up because of their inability to compete with fake and substandard goods.

“If we do our jobs diligently, we will be able to save these industries to provide job opportunities for our teeming unemployed youths.

“The fact that we save lives, save money and protect industries from unfair competitions means that we are as important as the military and the police who are fighting insecurity in Nigeria because you are fighting substandard goods in the market.

“This way, you are saving people’s jobs, saving the government taxes and also making sure that your brothers and sisters who are in universities, both private and public, will be able to get jobs in the future.

“That is why this job you are doing is so important,” he said.

Salim reiterated the agency’s commitment to achieving the country’s industrialisation agenda, while also improving lives through quality assurance.
