Mrs Rakiya Dhikru-Yagboyaju, the Deputy Director, Public Relations, NSC, confirmed this in a statement in Lagos.

The statement said Ukeyima who was received by management and staff promised to hit the ground running.

The statement added that the new executive secretary expressed his readiness to work as a team for the realisation of the counci’s mandate within the context of Marine and Blue Economy.

Ukeyima said shippers council was integral to the success of the agenda of President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr Gbayega Oyetola.

The NSC noted that over the years, the nation had been mulling the diversification of the economy from oil dependency to other revenue generating sectors.

He said this was the first time the Federal Govemment had taken a bold and pragmatic step with the creation of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.

According to him, with the creation of the new ministry, the council’s mandate becomes a lot more robust.

He, however, said a lot of work needed to be done in the council.

He pedged to be a servant leader and that his tenure would reward hard work and commitment.

“Sometimes we don’t appreciate knowledge but moving forward, we will reward hard work,” he said.
