No fewer than 87 passengers and six crew members escaped being hurt when na Nigerian private commercial airline, Air Peace, overshot the runway and taxied into the bush.
The incident happened at the Port Harcourt airport on Saturday at about 3 pm during a heavy downpour.
Reports say that the Nigeria Civil Authority Agency (NCAA) and early responders were remarkable.
The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed there were no casualties.
Mrs Henrietta Yakubu, General Manager, Corporate Affairs of FAAN, in a statement issued on Saturday, said that the runway had since been cleared for normal flight operations to continue.
According to her, the incident occurred during a downpour on Saturday at the airport.
“An Air Peace flight with registration number 5N BRN, flying from Abuja to Port Harcourt today, skidded off the Port Harcourt airport runway at about 1500hours.
“The incident occurred during a downpour at the airport.
“There were no casualties as all 87 passengers and six crew members aboard the flight were safely evacuated.
“The runway had already been cleared by the authority so that normal flight operations can continue,” she said.
