SON sure to certify 75% products in Enugu, Ebonyi states by 2023

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has assured that 75 per cent of manufactured products in Enugu and Ebonyi State would be MANCAP certified before the end of 2023.

The Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP), a SON scheme, is meant to verify and certify quality of all manufactured products made in the country. The product(s) are then issued quality certification and a green eagle logo to go with.

The Director-General of SON, Malam Farouk Salim, said this on Saturday in Enugu while presenting a MANCAP Certification to the Chief Executive Officer of Roxettes Chemical Industries Ltd, Chief Kelechi Orji.

Salim, represented by Mr Francis Onyeji, SON Coordinator in charge of Ebonyi and Enugu States, said that the agency is doing all to ensure that manufactured products within the two states get MANCAP certification to guarantee quality to the consumers.

He urged Nigerians to look out for the seal of MANACP certified quality logo, which is a green eagle logo and a number, on each locally-manufactured product they intend to buy.

The director general explained that the green eagle logo and a number close to it guarantees that the product met with both local and international standards and quality.

According to him, the MANCAP certification is now crucial for all manufacturers as the world is now a global village where perception and acceptability of a product is derived from standardisation.

“Any MANCAP certified product must have passed thorough laboratory, perimeter and international standardisation checks and the quality being the finest within the country and international market.

“So, SON is preparing all Nigerian manufactured products for the competitive continental and world markets to ensure we get our fair share from the global market,” he said.

Salim said that SON would continue to create awareness on the benefit of all products getting MANCAP and continue to carry out routine factory inspections to see that products are certified with MANCAP and their quality assured.

On Roxettes paints, he said that each of the different paint products of the company had been subjected to 25 different laboratory analysis and perimeter tests.

“The paint products from this factory passed all 25 laboratory standard checks that informed the issuance of the MANCAP certification to Roxettes Chemical Industries Ltd,” he said.

Responding, Orji said that the management and staff of the company are happy for the MANCAP certification and the confidence the certification would give its paint products marketing within and outside the country.

He revealed that the company’s paints are outstanding; have the highest anti-fungal dosage; are highly weather resistant and give wide coverage and spread on walls as it helps people to save money.

“Apart from the fact that you know that your products are of high quality; you feel good and encouraged when a government agency like SON recognises and attests to its quality through MANCAP certification among similar competing products in the market.

“I will assure Nigerians that we will keep to the standards on all our products and deliver satisfactory products to all Nigerians; even to continental and world markets,” he added.
